Being alive is more than enough to be grateful for. I have always known this, but I was reminded the hard way! You know, I almost died. Not literally, but in reality.
For months, I forgot how to take care of myself. I ate anything, at any time, drank less water, rarely rested, led an unhealthy lifestyle. How I missed home! It was fun in the beginning. My productivity level was super high after all. But the risk kept piling up. Since I could still get things done, I’d say: “I’ll be fine”.
It was in mid-2019. I was buried in work. I needed to smash those goals, yeah! You wouldn’t blame me much, would you? The year was running out, you’d agree. You probably did or are even doing the same thing right now? We all want more progress, which we understand, comes mainly from continuous productivity. That’s exactly why we work our ass off daily.
In short, I was stressed but I didn’t notice. I was rather too busy to admit I needed a break. I dozed off by the wheels a few times. Sound from the bumper screeching the curb once alarmed me up on a highway. And I was saved. The rest ehn, Jesus must have taken the wheel, trust me. I think I am not lucky. I’m actually blessed. So I had to amend my ways; change my lifestyle. You probably now understand why ‘slim’ now hits the gym. Go ahead and laugh, I forgive you. LOL. Let me not bore you with the details. Another time, maybe.
Point is, the New Year is rolling. Most of us have set super goals for the new decade; from professional to relationship to finance… you name it. The pressure of not being more might begin to set in as people across diverse platforms begin to tell boom tales while some others begin to question their lots. The choice would then be to be demoralized or better still, fired up to double up. The latter is surely a great idea, the former isn’t. Your goals are worth dying for, in a sense but not actually.
I am not advising you to take it easy. After all, “the kingdom of God suffereth violence and only the violent take it by force”. Aggression might be all you need to smash your goals by the set deadline. But can I remind you of something? It’s actually why I have written this. In all you do this day, week, month and year, please remember to take care of yourself. Eat healthily, exercise regularly, drink more water and rest often.
You are ultimate. Your life is paramount. Your family needs you. Our world needs you, alive. It is good to do the work, but it is better to be alive and healthy enough to eat the fruits.
I learned my lesson. You don’t have to, the way I did. God bless the work of your hand!
