Born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, I lived my childhood and most of my Adult life in Nigeria although I always had the opportunity to go back to ‘source’. In any case, the longest I remember staying back at a stretch was around 3 years which partly explains how I learned French (well, now you know *smile + wink*).
When I returned to Nigeria in 2007, people referred to me as Omo Abidjan (Abidjan Boy/Child). That in itself wasn’t a problem but for their tone which made it rather derogatory. So I hated it so badly. I believed my English was rather cool to be tagged as such.
Anyways, I [sha] went to study French at the University. I have since been using the language in diverse ways. Not only has it helped me access countless opportunities, it is one of the birthing factors of Protransl8, our Translation Agency. Voilà! Something I once considered a disadvantage, is now the ADVANTAGE.
What’s that story you hated or are hating so badly? Look deeply and you’d discover it has the key to those treasure chests you really seek. For a moment, breathe and think about it. See what it can do for you? It may not be the destination but it may as well be the starting point.
May your story usher you into glory for His glory.
