Everything, including our preferences, is prone to changes as we evolve. We could find ourselves disliking something we once liked or start preferring stuff we once swore to dislike. That’s normal, and it’s the same with picking or dropping new habits and skills.
This explains why a friend who often spoke down about suit-wearing years ago now wears a lot of it. It’s why even I who once hated math found myself at some point crunching numbers; leading financial reporting activities in an Insurance multinational and loving it.
Two key lessons here:
- Don’t let anyone trivialize/talk you out of the good things that matter to you now just because it doesn’t matter to them at the moment. You’ll be shocked to see them doing that same thing in the future. They aren’t necessarily playing you, they probably just don’t know better.
- Never get boxed in the “that’s me” trap. Nothing is fixed! Not you, nor your current realities. You are a work in progress and you have no idea the many things that can drastically change about you. Let yourself live, and experience the fluidity of life.
Evolve!
